Field guide

Choose forestry equipment by the work

Start with the material, terrain, required result and saleable unit. The machine class follows from those constraints—not the other way around.

Before the machine joins the system

Inspect the history, not just the hour meter.

A used forestry machine can hide structural fatigue, contaminated hydraulics and undercarriage expenditure. Service evidence and a warm-machine inspection carry more weight than fresh paint.

Selection sequence

Five decisions before a model number

The fastest route to the right shortlist is to resolve the commercial constraints in order.

  1. 01

    Define the saleable result

Cubic metres, tonnes, compliant hectares or completed stumps.

  2. 02

    Describe the material

Stem range, species, contamination, slope and ground conditions.

  3. 03

    Find the bottleneck

Measure every stage and identify the lowest sustainable capacity.

  4. 04

    Set the support radius

Price technicians, parts lead time and alternative work in your region.

  5. 05

    Compare whole-life cost

Convert purchase, downtime and utilisation into cost per saleable unit.
