Confirm the tractor genuinely suits the duty

Power is only part of it. Sustained PTO duty, hydraulic provision, weight distribution and cooling all matter for continuous work, and a tractor in the power band may not be configured for it.

Be honest about which function you actually need

Where only mulching or only tilling is required, a dedicated implement will out-produce the multifunction unit. The combination earns on sites where all three functions are genuinely needed.

Deliberately, yes — it trades peak performance in each role for completing a sequence in fewer passes with one implement. On mixed reclamation sites where vegetation, stumps and rock all have to be handled, that trade usually wins on total cost. On work where only one function is needed, a dedicated mulcher or tiller will out-produce it and the compromise costs you.

How much does rock content change the economics?

Enough to invert them, though the multiple varies too widely by soil and tooling for a general figure to be honest. The mechanism is what matters: rock drives tooth and tool-holder replacement while simultaneously reducing hectares per day, so cost per hectare rises as production falls. This is why surveying representative ground before pricing is standard among contractors who hold their quoted rates.
